Visualization aid. If I saw the rules before I saw the sample, I'd be scrolling down after every line to see what's being referred to. The Wikipedia puzzle articles typically have an image right at the intro, and I agree with that. I suppose it is ultimately a matter of taste, but the layout I currently use makes the most sense to me - it's the order I'd want things presented to me: show it to me, then tell me what I'm looking at and what to do with it, then (if need be) show me how to do that. I do maintain, however, that someone who is scrolling back and forth between the sample image and instructions is defeating the entire purpose - they're not actually following along in working out the puzzle - so I see no problem with actively discouraging that (not that I was doing it intentionally). - ZM
