I'm guessing you're too young to remember PicturePages. If you're going to be working on the sample puzzle, you should have printed it out (or opened it in a graphics editor) before reading the walkthrough. In fact, I'd hope you'd have tried to solve it yourself for a bit first! You're certainly right that it doesn't make sense to scroll back and forth, so why don't you have a workable copy of your own at that point?
I put the sample solution behind a cut due to the length it can occupy, as well as its optionality for experienced (or courageous) solvers - not to mention that it is also a spoiler for all intents and purposes. Putting it before the rules, however, is silly - scroll up, on this page, and tell me if it really makes sense to start detailing how to solve the puzzle before stating what constitutes a solved puzzle.
In case you haven't noticed, my journal isn't exactly standard fare here at LJ. Perhaps it is fairly common for some to read ahead and then go back to see behind cuts, but that doesn't seem to me to be what authors have in mind when they write, and it certainly doesn't work here. - ZM
