Okay, to be fair, there could be a third option - put the whole story within an lj-cut tag, and get a paid account. This will force others to read the story in my journal style. There are three downsides to that approach, however:

1) I lose the mini-text isolated to my comment page (I rather like that little trick);
2) those with a non-white background - which is a sizeable chunk of my Friends list - need an extra click to get to the story;
3) I need to spend money.
